Tuesday for Tina.....

  • chuckieb 6 years ago
I just wanted to do a thread title today in honour of Tina Hill Schweinle, a good friend to many of us here for many good years. On Tina's profile pages she says "I'm no model lady. A model's just the imitation of the real thing." Mae West~~ Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God." I think that's a pretty good summation of her. :)

Without a doubt she had a huge heart. She loved her family. She was a great writer. I feel like I know Fred, Liv and Tyler really well and that's simply because she brought them to life through her posts. She was a fantastic cook and not only am I thankful to have all of her recipes here on GR (She has posted 950 of them!!!) but I have numerous notes I sent to myself entitled "Tina's Thai Soup Snack", "Tina's Rib recipes, "Tina's Baked Alaska"....things we'd been chatting about that she sent me more details on as she'd never created an actual recipe for them.

She was a woman of conviction with strong views about right and wrong. She was kind. She loved animals. She had a great sense of humour. She loved a good pun. She loved turtles. She loved Halloween. She was the first one who ever told me about Cinco de Mayo or a Hot Brown. I'd never heard of those things before. She was Tina Tour Guide. She was a good person. She was our friend.

RIP Tina Hill Schweinle. We will miss you very, very much.

Joce, feeling any better today? Did you start the meds yet and have they started to kick in at all?

Judging from a Thread Title on the Refugees page I'd say Birthday Wishes were in order for Michelle today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHELLE!!!! It'd be awesome if you had a quiet day but I'm guessing that's not the case? Are you going out to celebrate? Whatever you end up doing I hope you have a great one.

We got more snow overnight and it's still coming down. It's -10C/14F.

Jim and I are going to Skype with Benjamin and his girlfriend this morning so that will be nice.

    I'd like to make
    Chicken And Coconut Soup
for lunch today but not sure if I have any fresh coriander.

    Think I'll make
    Roast Chicken With Balsamic Gravy
for dinner with peas and a baked potato on the side.

And I'll also continue writing up my Christmas cards and letters.

Wishing everyone a super great day.

Beautiful tribute to Tina ... Janet. Every bit of it true. I didn't know her as well as others and not for as long either but she made you feel like you knew her for a lifetime. Heart of Gold and Genuine.

Was wanting these and made them this morning. Big Apple Cinnamon Muffins
Used the Vietnamese Cinnamon I recently bought from King Arthur Flour and they were not kidding when they said it puts grocery store cinnamon to shame. Such a wonderful aroma and flavor. I make jumbo muffins and scarfed down two!

How much snow is predicted Janet? Roast chicken sounds ideal for a cold snowy day.

We will eat out tonight for DH's birthday but not sure yet where he wants to go. Yesterday he was thinking DaRuMa ... Japanese Hibachi which I'm not fond of but it's his birthday so ...
Hoping to get to the gym this afternoon. Not much else happening here.

I'm so heartbroken to hear about Tina :( Very well said on everything Janet. I know she was in a lot of pain for a long time so I hope she is up there now pain free and happy. I feel for Olivia as I know she is going through a tough time right now..a funeral right after a wedding can't be easy. We will miss her dearly.

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes!!!

Janet, love your menu hope you find some cilantro!!

That's awesome that your hubs and I share the same birthday Linda, I remember that from last year now!

Not anything exciting going on, Michael is on nights so I'll only see him for a few hours, then we have kids sports tonight so it will be just like any normal day lol. Making chicken and sausage gumbo tonight. That's about it, have a great day!!

What a lovely tribute to such a lovely lady, Janet! Yes, she was a very masterful cook and had such a wonderful way with words. When Fred passed away I was also in shock b/c I felt like I knew him as well. Thank you for letting people know. I am still in shock.

    Happy Birthday, Michelle!

No, I am still coughing up a storm, Janet. The pills are great big yellow footballs I take twice a day. On the monograph, it says they take a few days to kick in slow acting they say. Enjoy your chat with Ben and Angel. When does Angel go back to the Philipines? Your lunch and dinner sound amazing!

Happy Birthday to your DH, Linda! I am sure you will figure out where you are going to for his BD dinner. Enjoy your time at the gym.

Not sure what is for dinner, yet. Den is working from home b/c of the snow. It looks like we have about 6 inches already and it is still lightly snowing. Den will have to go out and shovel it later on.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

So sorry to hear you are not yet feeling better Joce. Coughing is the worse, it just wears you out. I hope the meds work soon to give you relief. Stay warm, drink lots, and rest. Is there anything you can take for the cough? to help surpress it for a bit.

Okay...soups on. I had coriander in the squeeze tube. Can't see a best before date on it. I know I bought it within the last couple of weeks. It looks okay. Wonder how long they last. Anyone?

The snow plow guy just came and plowed the lane way. It's supposed to snow all day and all night with a total accumulation of 20 cm/7".

Happy Birthday to your DH as well Linda! I'd love to go to a Japanese Hibachi place. What is it that you don't care for about that? Yum on your apple cinnamon muffins. They sound most delicious. I must keep my eye open for Vietnamese Cinnamon. I looked online and one of our Spice shops who sells online carries it.

I'm sure you will celebrate your birthday at a more advantageous time Michelle. Gumbo sounds very nice. I've never made it.

Ugh on football pills Joce. THE worst! :( Sorry to hear they are slow acting as well. I'm definitely an instant gratification girl. LOL. Do you use a vaporizer ever? Vicks on your chest? I LOVE the smell of Vicks. :) Angel has to go back to Olongapo on Thursday. They've had a lovely time together but man it'll be hard to them to say good-bye again. Wise of Den to stay home and stay off the roads today.

Beautiful post about Tina, Janet. You captured her essence perfectly.

    Happy birthday, Michelle!

Happy birthday to your DH, Linda. Enjoy your evening out! Where do get the King Arthur brand cinnamon? I have been looking for Ceylon cinnamon because it is the real thing, not the super market stuff. We love anything with cinnamon, real or not!

Ugh on the gargantuan pills, Joce. No fun! Hoping your cough gets better soon.

GS and daughter are still feeling icky. She went to work and plowed thru the evening, he went to school and she kept him out of swimming because he was still exhausted.

Went with Wayne to run errands. He was going to Rotary special luncheon so I was going to have him drop me at Walmart to pick up some last minute Christmas stuff while he was there. Well, when we got to Hardee's for breakfast he discovered he didn't have his wallet. I drove him home and sent him on his way. He is one of those "15 - minutes -early is on time, on time is late" people and if he dropped me off, I would never hear the end of how he was not there at a quarter till!

My house keys decided to go into hiding or fall out of my purse in the truck so I have to exit by the sun room. Not a problem. He has to pick up a latch for the screen door. It broke and is very hard to pry open. I have been locked out when putting cat food out for the new cat. He WILL install a latch today.

I absolutely love those big apple muffins Linda, sounds like you did too! Yum on Japanese Hibachi for the hubby's dinner, I could so go for that :)

Aww..Joce I hope those giant yellow pills start working for you :( Yikes on all the snow!

I have never bought the squeeze tube stuff before Janet, but have seen it, along with garlic and ginger and other herbs. Does it taste close to the real thing? That might be good to have on hand when I'm out of something. I do have some dried cilantro that came free with a Penzey order once, but it's nothing like the real thing lol. Holy cow, all yall's snow is making me cold haha! It's actually pretty chilly here, the wind is killer today. Gumbo is so much better with shrimp, but the kids do not like shrimp, plus I don't have it sooo.. :)

I think there is a bug going around Karen, a couple of the girls on Bri's softball team have been out sick, I'm just crossing my fingers neither of my kids get it. Ugh on Wayne forgetting his wallet, lol, I used to be one of those "early" people, but don't manage to do it very often anymore :-P Hope you find your key!

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone :-)

Very lovely tribute to Tina Janet. And yes, she was a masterful cook! She taught me the art of investment cooking. Cooking multiple things at a time to be able to use later in the week or month. Rest in Peace Dear Friend.

Happy Birthday to Michelle and your DH Linda! How cool to share a birthday!

Lunch is over so back to work for me. Will try to pop in later.

Sounds like you've been pretty busy running around Karen! :) Hope your keys show up soon and that you get a new latch installed on that door. It's one thing to get locked out in nice temperatures, but in December, not so much.

I'll report back on how the tube cilantro works after lunch Michelle. I've never used it before, but like you, thought it'd be handy to have on hand if I run out of fresh.

My daughter uses the tube garlic a lot. I don't care as much for it, like the real thing or maybe dried if can't get fresh.

My computer just said it wants to install updates. Best get moving, it is time to head out for my chiro appt. Will meet Wayne there and see what else is ahead errand wise.

I sent Liv a condolence this morning on behalf of all of us here who knew Tina through Group Recipes. Liv just wrote back and said "She loved all of you so much on GR. You guys were truly a family to her".

And I also let Marie know. I'll copy and paste Marie's message back here:

"Oh dear...I'm so sorry to hear that Tina passed away...She was indeed a lovely lady..thank you for letting me know.

I am unable to log in on GR...Shona messaged me re: she was worried about getting hacked and she uses a bogus email address, so I of course changed mine as well, now I cannot log on..oh well, I'm basically done with GR..this has happened so many times and the escort posts are getting out of hand..I wish GR was what it used to be:( I miss all of my GR friends. Please relay the message that I'm unable to log on etc if u would."

Got through a few more Christmas cards and letters and Jim made a beer paddle. Went for a hot tub before it got dark. It's so pretty in the winter time and the snow insulates everything so it is SO quiet. :)

Just prepped the chicken. Looking forward to snuggling up in front of the fire and watching the hockey game tonight.

Hi Kimmer, yes Tina was a wonderful cook, anything I ever made of hers was always delicious. Thank you for the b-day wishes!

That was so nice that Liv wrote back Janet, thanks for writing her for us. I'm so bummed that Marie won't be back :( :(

I use dried garlic too if I'm out of fresh Karen, it reconstitutes wonderfully and taste great!

Got the gumbo going and it smells so good!

Hi all. A lot has changed since I've been gone. My thoughts go out to our departed.
Received my heating blanket today. I'll be able to turn down the thermostat now. Was at 62f. Going to try 55f and stay snuggled.

Hi Points! A lot has changed, people are leaving, escort posts, now Tina :( I miss the old GR a lot. It's going to be a struggle to keep this site going if things don't change again, for the better. I'm kind of in the back of my mind hoping Kris pops in and saves everything, but I'm pretty sure that will never happen. Nice on your heating blanket, save yourself some $$ on that heating bill! :)

FYI on the tubed Coriander Michelle. Don't! I found it tasteless. :( Soup was still good though.

Hey Points! Good to see you on. We keep our house at 22C in the winter time which translates to 71F. Even at that I sometimes feel chilly. If one is working around the house that's one thing, but being still is harder. Hope you like your heating blanket.

But have you noticed that there have not been any porno ads on the home page in quite a few days. Maybe because more recipes have been posted? I haven't posted a recipe in a long while but perhaps will start doing again in the new year. Let's beat them at their own game! It's our site, not theirs! At least, let's keep the ODD Group going..........for Tina!

    Hi Points!!!

Amen Kimmer. I SO feel the same as you. And I totally noticed the lessening of the Escort Ads but I didn't want to say anything in case I jinxed it. LOLOLOL! I LOVE your "Fight not flight" attitude. I'm with ya. It is our site. I am not going away either. Bring it on. )
