Childhood memory

Ok, I won't post this as an actual recipe, because it's just a way my mother used to get us kids to eat our sandwiches. Who doesn't like grilled cheese sandwiches, right? BUT, top one side with grape jelly as soon as it comes out of the pan, and you have a sweet/salty combination that us kids LOVED! I still like to top my grilled cheeses with jelly today...but whenever I suggest it to anyone, they think it is disgusting. As I always say, "don't knock it 'til you've tried it"!!

I've not ever had this on a grilled cheese, but as a kid my dad introduced me to cheddar cheese sticks (just long thin chunks cut from a block of cheddar cheese) dipped in grape jelly. It really is quite yummy & I will definitely try it on a grill cheese sandwhich. What type of cheese do you use? I think it's funny that fruit & cottage cheese is perfectly exceptable even sold at the grocery store, but jelly and cheese is weird ??? The flavor combo's (I've always thought) are the same. I know people's reaction though -anyone I've told about the combo always answer with a scrunched up nose. Even my mom swore my dad & I were weird -but she would never even try it.

Krum... I told you our family was on the strange side... I made this today for my 5 year old Granddaughter.. After she got done checking it out... she wolfed it down. But again you have to remember... that girl eats anything.. She has her own cucumber and tomato plants on the porch... and we all keep ranch dressing in frig just for her! But I tasted it and it was "diffrent".. I think I could live with it!

I had to join this group just so I could comment on this. (Not that I wouldn't have joined it anyway. ;P)
I am a big fan of Food Network (who isn't?) Anyway their show 'Ham on the Street' with
George Duran had a show about cheese (I think it was cheese, bear with me.)
And he claimed you could take any cheese and any jelly and combine them in a grilled cheese sandwich. He also did a taste test game with people where they had to guess the kinds of cheese and jellies. Most of the people were pleasantly surprised. So that got my curiosity going. So far I have tried Swiss with Strawberry (yum) and Provolone with Strawberry (meh).
I'm thinking I would like to get ahold of some jalepeno jelly to go with yellow cheese.
