GINGERBREAD BARS

- Ingredients: shopping list
- 1 cup + 2 Tbs. Whole-wheat flour shopping list
- 1 cup + 2 Tbs. all-purpose flour shopping list
- 2 Tbs. Minced orange zest shopping list
- 2 ¼ ground ginger shopping list
- 1 tsp. cinnamon shopping list
- 1 tsp. baking powder shopping list
- 1 tsp. baking soda shopping list
- ¼ tsp. salt shopping list
- 1/8 tsp. Ground white pepper shopping list
- ¼ cup firmly packed Light or dark brown sugar shopping list
- ¼ cup reduced-calorie tub margarine shopping list
- ¼ cup Unsweetened cinnamon-flavored applesauce shopping list
- 1 cup skim buttermilk shopping list
- 3 egg whites or just whites shopping list
How to make it
- 1)Preheat oven to 350. Spray an 8” square baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
- 2)In a medium bowl, whisk together whole-wheat flour, all-purpose, zest, ginger, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, salt and pepper.
- 3)In a larger bowl with electric electric mixer on high speed, beat sugar, margarine and applesauce until smooth. Add buttermilk and egg whites; beat until combined. Reduce speed to low; gradually add flour mixture until blended.
- 4)Spoon batter into prepared pan. Bake 25 – 30 minutes, until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely on wire rack before cutting into 6 equal bars.

- 5)These can be topped with Confectioners sugar sprinkled on the top or can be frosted with a low calorie frosting.
