From elgourmand 14 years agoIngredients
- • 1 lb ground meat shopping list
- • 2 slices of bacon, chopped (optional) shopping list
- • 2 Tbs olive oil shopping list
- • 2 cloves garlic, chopped shopping list
- • Handful or so mushrooms, good but optional shopping list
- • 4-5 cans crushed tomatoes. shopping list
- • 4 or 5 ripe olives sliced (optional) shopping list
- • a can or two of dry wine, red or white shopping list
- • Tbs or two of fresh basil, or couple tsp. dry shopping list
- • tsp. oregano shopping list
- • good grind black pepper shopping list
- • ½ tsp. fennel seed, crushed shopping list
- • tsp. vinegar shopping list
- • scant tsp. sugar shopping list
- • dash Tabasco (very optional) shopping list
- • other kinds of Chile are optional shopping list
How to make it
- 1. Put the olive oil in a suitable pot and brown the meat & bacon
- 2. Add the garlic and frizz a bit
- 3. Add the mushrooms and olives and toss that round a bit
- 4. Add the tomatoes, wine & spices (all the stuff that’s left)
- 5. Let Marinara Sauce simmer down slowly, stir occasionally so it doesn’t stick. This is a very versatile sauce with a wide range of uses. The above would be quite right for a good plate of Spaghetti for half a dozen people. Make the Marinara Sauce more concentrated, and more highly spiced if you are going to flavor a whole Lasagna with it, or make Marinara Sauce much lighter, and without meat, to showcase freshly found wild mushrooms, or as an accent to Veal a’la Parmigiano. Marinara Sauce is a fun sauce to play with and modify. Enjoy. Goza la vida! (Enjoy life!)
