Ingredients

How to make it

  • Soak blueberries in orange juice while preparing batter
  • In medium glass bowl, combine flour, baking powder, half of the brown sugar, orange peel, nutmeg and salt.
  • Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Drain, but don't rinse, and add blueberries.
  • Add buttermilk, a little at a time, combining only until soft dough forms.(probably about 2/3 cup)
  • Drop onto lightly floured surface and form round "loaf" about 1 inch thick.
  • Cut into 8 triangles and place on backing stone, cast iron or parchment covered baking sheet.
  • Whisk together egg white and remaining buttermilk.
  • Sprinkle with remaining brown sugar.
  • Bake at 400 for 12-15 minutes
  • Meanwhile, combine butter ingredients until well blended. Serve with warm scones.
