Ingredients

How to make it

  • Melt fat over medium heat and lightly salt bottom of a cast iron skillet (if you have one)
  • Break up ground meat in skillet and start crumbling it with the back of a wooden spoon==this is important, the meat must be in small crumbles.
  • Add chopped onion to skillet with meat..
  • Keep working to break up the meat.
  • When meat is cooked, drain any fat and return meat to skillet.
  • Add mustard, vinegar, sugar and just enough water to barely cover the meat in the skillet,
  • Simmer until water is gone, about 15 - 20 minutes.
  • Salt & pepper to taste.
  • Heat your hamburger buns, (they are traditionally steamed for loosemeats) you can toast the bread if you like.
  • When buns are warm, put some yellow mustard on them and add some dill pickle slices.

Neat! Sounds very different...I've never used lard either, but it does add a ton of flavor...lots of Mexican dishes aren't the same without it...but ya know what? I still won't be using any! lol...thanks for a great post!

I've made this before and it is really good! Remember the show Rosanne? Well, she and hubby and sis were opening that diner, and loose meat sandwiches was going to be their signature dish. That's when I started looking for recipes for it and came across this one. Thanks for posting!
