Here's a popular snack for picnics in Scotland. Not very healthy, perhaps, but yummy!

Ingredients
  • 5 hard boiled eggs, peeled
  • 1 lb sausage meat
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1tbs water
  • 3 oz approx dry breadcrumbs
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • pinch mace (optional)
  • flour
  • fat or oil for frying

Directions
  1. Coat the boiled eggs in a little flour seasoned with salt and pepper.
  2. Mix mace, salt and pepper with sausage, then divide sausage into 5 equal portions.
  3. Pat out into rounds, then wrap each round around an egg, making sure they're all covered with no gaps.
  4. Mix the water with the beaten egg, dip each wrapped egg in it, then roll in the breadcrumbs.
  5. Deep fry in hot (360-375d) 5 or 6 minutes, or fry in a skillet in deep oil, turning frequently to make sure they're evenly cooked, until golden brown.
  6. Drain, cut in half if you'd like.
  7. Serve hot or cold.

I've been wanting to try these for a long time. I'm going to save this.

I LOVE scotch eggs! This is much like my recipe too. I did learn that you can oven bake them if you pour a little melted butter on them before you bake them. Then turn them over once while baking. I can't remember where I heard about that but it's almost just as good as the real thing.

Never heard of this dish and it sounds FANTASTIC..a must try!

These are my favorite "heart stopper"!
