  • Cake
  • 2 cups of sifted all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp of baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp of salt
  • 1/2 tsp of mace
  • 1/2 cup of butter softened
  • 1 1/4 cups of granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp of vanilla
  • 3/4 cup of sour cream
  • 3/4 cup of Kahlua
  • Streusel
  • 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of chopped pecans
  • 1/4 tsp each of cinnamon and mace
  • Glaze
  • 3/4 cup of sifted confectioner's sugar
  • 2 tbsp of softened butter
  • 1 1/2 tbsp. of Kahlua

Directions
  1. Grease and flour a 9 inch fluted tube pan.
  2. Prepare struesel filling by mixing the ingredients together, reserve.
  3. Phreheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  4. Sift together the flour and the dry ingredients, including the mace.
  5. In a large bowl, cream together the butter sugar and eggs with the vanilla.
  6. Beat for two minutes on medium speed with an electric mixer, mixture may look curdled at this point.
  7. On lowest speed blend in flour alternately with the sourcream and Kahlua. Turn 1/3 of the batter into the pan.
  8. Top with half the struesel mixture.
  9. Top with 1/3 of the batter.
  10. Top with remaining struesel mixture. End with remaining batter on top.
  11. bake in oven on the lower rack for 45 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Remove and let stand 10 minutes.
  13. Invert on a cake rack and cool til lukewarm.
  14. remove pan.
  15. combine all ingredients for the glaze and beat til smooth
  16. Spoon over cooled cake.

You weren't drinking the Kahlua while baking the cake were you? What a fun story, glad nothing & no one was hurt. And seeing a man in uniform doesn't hurt the eyes either!(LOL) I'll just be sure to use the right amount so I don't have the fire department here. Great post!

This sounds like a definite need-to-try-it recipe. I love the tang the sour cream adds and the kahlua is definitely the flavor that tops it off.

That was a funny story...... Im glad all wasnt hurt either... but the cake does sound awesome....will add it to my list of things to do...


Hmmmm, I think Deb had the right idea...maybe I'll try my luck her way and I won't have to live through anymore "set-ups" by friends and family!!!! The cake sounds great and I love the story :)
