My mother always made these when i was growing up. The olives are optional and my own addition.

no one mentioned it, but i forgot to say when to add the basil...
you can add the basil just when the tomatoes have melted and formed a bit of a sauce..
just before you add the green beans...
the basil also is not mandatory but it IS lovely...

This was delicious. used the frozen string beans and i did not have olives so i used capers instead. i used dried basil and a lot more olive oil than the recipe amount (enough to coat the pan). I used 2 beefsteak tomatoes instead of one and the tomatoes with the dried basil & the onions & garlic made such a delicious sauce for the string beans. Thanks for a wonderful vegetarian dish!!!!
