Finally, a decent basic biscuit recipe. Living in England and when you search for a biscuit recipe they bloody think "cookies"!!! I miss American foods!!!!

Oh yes, forgot to say THANKS!!!

Super - I used the oil in the recipe instead of the suggested butter alteration, but I used 1/4 tsp salt as carmengirl suggested.

Doubled the recipe, but still had to make it again in the afternoon :-) it's just my husband and me, but he has really been craving bread since we've moved to an area that doesn't have it available.

Update: I've lost count of how many times I've made this recipe (always made doubled) over the past several days since I discovered it - thanks for the super post. My husband asks for it basically every time he's hungry for breakfast, a snack, a side for soup, and so on :-)

Thankyouthankyouthankyou! I always use my mom's biscuit recipe, which makes about 20 biscuits, which is about 16 more than my hubby and I need, and I haven't bothered to break it down. I will try your recipe! - Natalie

This was great. My wife and I loved it. And I think I'm going to make it again for breakfast in the morning . . .

Substitute the oil for 1 tbsp unsalted butter - after nuking the milk for about 20 seconds and pouring it into the dry ingredients the butter softens, then cut it in with a knife. Also, I found 1/2 tsp salt to be a bit too much, perhaps 1/4 would work better for a lesser salt-o-holic...

I'm in a very high-humid apartment without air conditioning, so the liquid amounts were way too much for me.

I mixed the milk and oil in a separate container and poured in until the dough came away in a smooth ball.
