Ingredients
  • 1/2 lb. fresh ground beef fat or lamb fat
  • 1/3 cup sunflower seed
  • 2/3 cup wild bird seed (mix)
  • 1/8 cup chopped peanuts
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • or any combination of grains and/or seeds you like.

Directions
  1. Melt beef fat in a saucepan over low heat.
  2. Allow it to cool thoroughly, then reheat it.
  3. Mix the rest of the ingredients together in a large bowl.
  4. Allow the suet to cool until slightly thickened, then stir it into the mixture in the bowl.
  5. Mix thoroughly.
  6. Form into pie pan or pack into suet feeders, into pine cones, smear it on tree trunks.
  7. Break out the binoculars!

We provide suet for the birds all winter but the meat we buy is so well trimmed there's no fat left to make suet blocks.
We have to buy chunks of what the suet they cut off in the meat dept to put in our suet feeders. At least we can still get it!
