Ingredients

How to make it

  • Add flour to the melted fat in hot pan and stir to make a brown roux.
  • Thin the mixture with a little hot water and add heated milk, salt and pepper.
  • Stir until thick. Add crumbled fried sausage for a real treat.
  • Serve over hot home made biscuits.

    I grew up on mashed potatoes and gravy. I was exposed to the method of stirring flour and water (shaken together) into the meat juice to make gravy.
    I've never made a roux. I need to try this. Thanks.

    Never knew it was called sawmill gravy. We just called it sausage gravy and biscuits. Yum. So good. Thank you.
