Festive Layered Salad Recipe

I came up with this years ago combining various 7 layer salad recipes that I liked. It makes a lot. It goes great for a pot luck dinner or a casual holiday buffet.

Ingredients
- 8 ounces of lettuce, salad greens, etc
- 8 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced
- 1 pound frozen baby peas, defrosted
- 1 red onion chopped
- 2 cans of sliced water chestnuts, drained
- 1 large red bell pepper, chopped
- 3-4 stalks of celery, sliced
- 8-16 ounces bacon, fried and crumbled
- 3-4 hard boiled eggs, chopped
- 8 ounces of shredded cheddar cheese
- Dressing:
- 1 cup mayo
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 t garlic powder
- 2 Tablespoons vinegar
- 1 Tablespoon sugar
- salt and pepper, to taste
- Combine, set aside
Directions
- Layer ingredients in order given, except pour dressing over last layer before adding cheese.
- Cover, let sit in the refrigerator at least 8 hours before serving.

I had a wonderful layered salad today after my aunt's funeral. It had diced up cucumbers in it too! It was really good. Your recipe caught my eye because you use water chestnuts like the one today! I am happy I ran across this and thank you so much! High 5!
