In the south we serve these with fried catfish. You could call these a Southern appetizer

Ingredients
- 2 cups white cornmeal
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
Directions
- Combine all ingredients; mix thoroughly.
- Drop by the tablespoonful into hot deep fat. (370 degrees)
- Fry a few at a time, until golden brown on all sides.
- Drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot.
- Makes about 2 dozen.
