Ingredients
  • 2 cups white cornmeal
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion

Directions
  1. Combine all ingredients; mix thoroughly.
  2. Drop by the tablespoonful into hot deep fat. (370 degrees)
  3. Fry a few at a time, until golden brown on all sides.
  4. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Serve hot.
  6. Makes about 2 dozen.
