Deans Popcorn Balls Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup sugar

1/3 cup light Karo Syrup

1/3 cup butter

1/3 cup water

1 teasp. salt

2 teasp. vanilla

popped popcorn (air popped if possible)

Directions

in a heavy pan put sugar, karo syrup, butter, water, salt

over med heat stir until sugar dissolves

boil to soft ball stage- 228' -230' F

remove from heat add vanilla

pour over unsalted, unbuttered popcorn*****

pour little at a time

let cool enough to handle

then with buttered hands shape into balls

**** I found that the bottom of a 21 lb turkey roasting pan was the approx. amount of popped popcorn needed for 1 batch

to make it easier I would also spread it out on a commercial cookie sheet

to fix nice for gifts:

I would get the colored plastic wraps ( blue, red, yellow, and green)

from the store and tear off approx square pieces and put the popcorn ball in the middle.. bringing the sides up to the top of the ball and tying with a couple of pieces of curling ribbon..
