Ingredients
  • 2 cups uncooked (raw) rice
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1½ lb. ground pork sausage (hot seasoned sausage is best)
  • 1½ lb. ground beef
  • 1 medium bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 5-6 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
  • 4-5 shots Louisiana style hot sauce
  • salt to taste
  • red pepper to taste

Directions
  1. Cook rice in chicken stock: Place rice and stock in large, uncovered pot and bring to a rapid boil. Reduce heat cover pot and simmer until rice if fully cooked. Prepare remaining ingredients while rice cooks.
  2. Mix ground beef and ground pork sausage, season with salt and red pepper and pan fry the mixture. Add chopped bell pepper, chopped onion and minced garlic to the meat. Continue cooking meat and vegetables until onions are translucent, peppers are tender and the meat is well done.
  3. When rice is done, add to meat and vegetable mixture and blend well. Serve hot.

I'm a huge rice fan, and it's just been recently that I've 'gotten into' Dirty Rice, or any rice-and-bean combo... Great recipe, and thanks for posting it, SaltyMike :)
P.S...Welcome to the site :)

Definitely saving this one! I've always loved Dirty Rice, and this recipe sounds perfect...thanks for sharing! =)

Love me some dirty rice!!!! Never tried adding sausage (love me some sausage too). I saved this one - I gotta give it a try.

I usually pan fry some seasoned chicken gizzards in butter and dice them up and add them to my dirty rice.

I love dirty rice too. The spicier the better for me. Sounds great and welcome to the site, SaltyMike. Fixing up the black eyed peas for New Year's? Gotta love 'em.

Love dirty rice! Saving this one!

Loving this one, too!!

Oh yeah...I am a dirty rice freak. Love it, love it....loooOOOooove it. I always put hot ground pork sausage in mine with all the fixings, but I've never used the ground beef/ground pork combo. Sounds good! Thank you for sharing. =)

I'm collecting rice recipes because dry rice stores much better than potatoes, the dish freezes better, and is cheaper. After going through many dirty rice recipes here, I'm saving yours because is has more spice, and doesn't use gizzards and liver (but I'd probably add those when I buy a whole bird that comes with the insides).
