Ingredients

How to make it

  • Boil rutabaga until soft, about 20-30 minutes depending on thickness of slices.
  • Drain well in colander
  • Return to pot and mash with butter to the consistency of coarsely mashed potatoes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Serve immediately

    can this be frozen? i have rutabaga and desperately want to make this but don't want to have to toss it if we don't eat it all!

    Have you ever tried potatoes, rutabagas and turnips boiled together...then mashed up together..I uses more potatoes than the other two veggies.. This sounds wonderful....Great Post!!!!

    Rutabaga are probably our favorite winter veggie - simply steamed, sauteed or mashed, they need nothing more than a bit of butter and seasoning, as you suggest. If you've never tried rutabaga, you really should give it a go - fantastic flavor! Hats off to your mom for teaching you early on the great taste of this veggie...
