golden onion soup

- 1/4 cup butter shopping list
- 2 thinly sliced onions shopping list
- 3/4 tsp thyme shopping list
- fresh ground pepper to taste shopping list
- 1 Tbs. flour 2 cups water shopping list
- 1/2 cup dry wine (changing wines changes flavor) shopping list
- 2 Tbs. soy sauce shopping list
- 1 Tbs. honey shopping list
- 1/4 heaping cup shredded swiss cheese shopping list
How to make it
- melt butter in a sauce pan over medium heat
- add onions thyme and season with pepper
- cover and lower heat to low and cook very slowly till onions are translucent,stirring occasionally,about 20-25 minutes
- cook unti they are brown and well carmilized
- add flour to onions and stir until browned( don't burn) scraping bottom for about 5 minutes
- add water,wine,soy sauce and honey.
- bring to a boil and reduce heat to a very slow simmer and cook till slightly thickened, about 1 1/2 hours
- add swiss cheese ,stir until melted and serve with crusty bread
