Ingredients

How to make it

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • Grease two 9" square baking pans.
  • In a large bowl combine the first nine ingredients.
  • Combine beef over mixture and mix well.
  • Pat into the pans.
  • Bake for 20 minutes until meat is no longer pink, drain.
  • Let stand for 10 minutes.
  • In a large saucepan bring the water, milk, butter and salt to a boil.
  • Stir in potato flakes
  • Remove from the heat.
  • Invert meat loaf onto serving platter, invert second meat loaf onto a cutting board.
  • Spread 1-1/2 cups mashed potatoes over loaf on the platter.
  • Carefully slide second loaf onto the potatoes.
  • Spread 3-1/2 cups mashed potatoes over the top and sides.
  • Spoon remaining mashed potatoes into pastry bag with open tip #195.
  • Pipe a shell border around the bottom and top edges.
  • Place ketchup and mustard in resealable plastic bags, cut a small hole in a corner of each bag.
  • Pipe ketchup and mustard on cake.

    I love decorating things and meatloaf and mashed potatoes are favorites of mine. Your recipe is very much like mine but I never thought of the frosting with mashed potatoes. Very Clever! I'd love to take a picture of it when I'm done but I think I am the last person in America without a digital camera. I must get one.

    Sorry for the typo and left out the main ingredient, Oh MY I think I am losing it big time, LOL, LOL, LOL. But thanks for calling this to my attention. It is 2 pounds of very lean ground beef about 85% or higher lean. I have made the correction in the recipe THANKS again have a wonderful day!!!!
