German Apple Cake Recipe
Lovely apple cake, My boys prefer this over apple pie. Takes a while to bake but worth the wait.

Ingredients
  • 5 Granny Smith apples, peeled and cut into 1/4" slices
  • 5 tbsp sugar
  • 4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/3 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix 5 tbsp of sugar and the cinnamon in small bowl, toss into apples.
  3. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  4. Mix sugar, eggs, orange juice, oil and vanilla in large bowl.
  5. Add flour mixture, mix well.
  6. Spoon batter and apple mixture alternately into lightly greased tube pan until all ingredients are used, beginning with batter and ending with apple mixture.
  7. Bake for 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 hours.
  8. Cool for 20 minutes.
  9. Remove from pan.
  10. If desired, flip so apples are on the top.

This is a 5! The recipe is very similar to a Russian Apple Cake that I prepare. Isn't it amazing how the world's cuisines blend together!
