How to make it

  • Mix together the Splenda, cocoa, salt and cornstarch in a small pot.
  • Add milk and water and whisk together.
  • Bring to a boil and boil for 5 minutes, until the sauce begins to thicken, stirring constantly.
  • Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and cool.

DO NOT MAKE! DO NOT MAKE!
This is an astonishingly B-A-D recipe. It's bad in just about every possible way that it COULD be bad. The resulting syrup is much too salty, insufficiently sweet, and much too thick. (It has the consistency of chocolate glop; not syrup.). I don't have a real "sweet tooth", but this wasn't sweet enough even to bring out the chocolate flavor. (I made mine with Hersey's Unsweetened (Dutched) Chocolate.
I added more sweetener, and water to thin it, but I didn't measure the amounts, and don't intend to go back and check it again. My corrections were solely done on the basis of, "What can I do to try to rescue this, so I don't just waste the ingredients. The corrections improved it, but it was still too salty (as noted in another review).
I don't mean ill toward the person posting the recipe; only to warn others to try something else.

I made this, it's very chocolate-y and good but.....am wondering about the salt amount, as I find the sauce (more like pudding, actually!) quite salty. When comparing to a few other on-line recipes, 1 tsp seems to be a lot - is that accurate or a typo?

Hey, just found this receipe and it is wonderful! For those of you outside USA, like Agira, Splenda is sucralose in the generic form, and Heartland Sweetners offers it up worldwide under the store brand name. Tate and Lyle Specialty Sweetners in the UK applied for license to sell in 2001; so should be available now. If you go to Splenda.com there are links to Canada and French sites, and a Splenda store for purchase if none is available near by. Hope it helps.

Splenda Granular is a no-calorie sweetener that measures (volume-speaking) like sugar... I'm not aware of any similar products that are heat stable but you can look in a health food store or, alternatively, online to see what they have available.
