I Want-em Wontons

- 1 lb ground pork shopping list
- 2 tsp canola oil shopping list
- 1 tsp salt shopping list
- dash of chili powder shopping list
- 1 can water chestnuts, chopped shopping list
- 1/2 medium onion, chopped very fine shopping list
- 1 bottle (11.75 oz) of KikkomanTonkatsu sauce (pork cutlet sauce and available at Whole Foods and most grocery stores in the Oriental foods aisle) shopping list
- 2 tsp soy sauce shopping list
- 1 T sugar shopping list
- 1 egg, beaten shopping list
- 1 pkg wonton wrappers (100) shopping list
- oil, for frying shopping list
How to make it
- In a skillet, brown the port in the 2 tsp canola oil.
- Add salt , chili powder, water chestnuts, and onion.
- Cook until onions are tender.
- Add Tonkatsu sauce, soy sauce, and sugar.
- Cook about 5 minutes so flavors blend.
- Add beaten egg to mixture and stir.
- Remove from heat.
- Brush each wonton wrapper with a little water and place 1 tsp of meat mixture in center (no more). Fold over corner to corner to form a triangle and press edges to seal.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or a wok. Fry 4 or 5 wontons at a time, turning once with tongs or a chopstick.
- Important: take the wontons out of the hot oil before they look done as they brown quickly.
- Drain on paper towels and serve hot or at room temperature.
- Makes 100 wontons.
