Cookies made with a bottle of white wine

Ingredients
- 5 pounds of flour
- 3 pounds crisco shortening
- 1 bottle ( minus 1 cup ) of white wine
- juice from 1 lemon ( 3 tablespoons )
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 cups powdered sugar
Directions
- Combine flour and crisco.
- add wine and lemon juice
- mix dough with your hands until hands come out clean.
- chill overnight.
- roll into 1/2 inch thick
- cut with medium sized cookie cutters.
- bake at 350 degrees F. for 10 to 20 minutes.
- bottoms will be light brown.
- while hot toss cookies in a mixture of granulated sugar and powdered sugar.
- set on a wire rack until cooled....

Would you mind terribly if I tinkered with this??? I'm thinking candied pecans or golden raisins...maybe even a touch of saffron or sage.... can I can I can I????

I love wine cookies! I found a recipe on Allrecipes.com thats made with red wine, oil, flour and a tiny bit of sugar in the dough...then the cookies are rolled in sugar just before baking! Sooo good! It tastes like a really good sweet bread! Great with a cup of coffee!
