Ingredients

How to make it

  • Preheat deep-fat fryer to 350F (175C) OR heat 2 inches of veg oil in a deep frying pan or skillet
  • Mix corn meal with 1 cup flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
  • Add egg and milk;.
  • Stir in melted shortening.
  • Mix the batter well.
  • Stick the skewers or popsicle sticks into the hotdogs, leaving enough of the stick to hold while you eat the corndog.
  • Dust the hot dogs with the 2 Tbsp flour (this makes the batter stick really well.).
  • Dip the hot dogs into the batter. (Only cook two at a time.)
  • Stand skewer-side up and fry in until golden brown, about 2 or 3 minutes.
  • Drain on paper towel.
  • Serve with mustard and catsup!

    You can't post a recipe like this! Don't you know I have to eat at least 10 of these :-) Thanks, the flour coating is most interesting. I will get out a deep pot and make these and take pics. You are so bad!!!!!!! Best, JJ.
