Corn Dogs

- 1 cup corn meal shopping list
- 1 cup all-purpose flour + 2 Tbsp shopping list
- 2 tsp baking powder shopping list
- 2 Tbsp sugar shopping list
- 1/2 tsp salt shopping list
- 1 egg, slightly beaten shopping list
- 1 cup milk shopping list
- 2 Tbsp melted shortening shopping list
- 1 lb (8) hotdogs (beef, pork, turkey, etc.) shopping list
- 8 wooden skewers or popsicle sticks shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat deep-fat fryer to 350F (175C) OR heat 2 inches of veg oil in a deep frying pan or skillet
- Mix corn meal with 1 cup flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
- Add egg and milk;.
- Stir in melted shortening.
- Mix the batter well.
- Stick the skewers or popsicle sticks into the hotdogs, leaving enough of the stick to hold while you eat the corndog.
- Dust the hot dogs with the 2 Tbsp flour (this makes the batter stick really well.).
- Dip the hot dogs into the batter. (Only cook two at a time.)
- Stand skewer-side up and fry in until golden brown, about 2 or 3 minutes.
- Drain on paper towel.
- Serve with mustard and catsup!
