Ingredients

1 cup corn meal

1 cup all-purpose flour + 2 Tbsp

2 tsp baking powder

2 Tbsp sugar

1/2 tsp salt

1 egg, slightly beaten

1 cup milk

2 Tbsp melted shortening

1 lb (8) hotdogs (beef, pork, turkey, etc.)

8 Wooden skewers or popsicle sticks

Directions

Preheat deep-fat fryer to 350F (175C) OR heat 2 inches of veg oil in a deep frying pan or skillet

Mix corn meal with 1 cup flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

Add egg and milk;.

Stir in melted shortening.

Mix the batter well.

Stick the skewers or popsicle sticks into the hotdogs, leaving enough of the stick to hold while you eat the corndog.

Dust the hot dogs with the 2 Tbsp flour (this makes the batter stick really well.).

Dip the hot dogs into the batter. (Only cook two at a time.)

Stand skewer-side up and fry in until golden brown, about 2 or 3 minutes.

Drain on paper towel.

Serve with mustard and catsup!
