This recipe was found in a file box in a lake cottage in New Hampshire. The cottage had belonged to two spinsters near the turn of the century. The recipe has been converted from one that was to be cooked in or on a fireplace.

Love the sound of a good sweet old recipe! Thank you Jett..I miss chatting with ya!

Wow. Would modern whole wheat flour be ok? There have been times (sleet storms, hurricanes,) when baking bread on a hearth would have been a handy thing to know how to do! Thanks!

I remember my Mother preparing a recipe very similar to this. thanks so much Jett!
