How to make it

  • Place Onions in a bowl and pour boiling water over them. Let sit 1 min and drain.
  • Toast all dry ingredients in a skillet over medium low heat. Transfer to a spice mill and coarsely grind.
  • Place Onions in a fruit jar with coarsely ground spices. Add Garlic, Vinegar and a couple pinches of Salt.
  • Top off with water to barely cover. Let stand at least 2 hours to blend flavors. Refrigerate. Makes about 1 cup.

    I have heard of these onions before but never got the recipe.
    These sound great for my BBQ chicken thank you for posting this unique and easy recipe with all my favorite spices and herbs. I can almost smell them toasting ah so fragrant.

    I love pickled onions. The first time I had them were at Stephan Pyles restaurant in Dallas and they are fantastic. Love this recipe. You've got my 5.
