This version came straight from Pennsylvania Dutch country and as far as I know has remained, unchanged for generations. I have never thrown out one morsel of this salad.

Add three sliced green onions, (tops and all), to drippings and cook slightly before adding vinegar.

Momma used make something similar, called Killed Salad. Love this stuff.

We use to have this at home as I was growing up, it's so good, you have my 5 on this one. Thanks for the memories.

Now I found your recipe - slightly different measurements, but basically the same salad...just goes to show there are soooo many small variations to this wonderful wilted salad. I think it must have been a summer "staple" of the earlier generations that relied on their garden produce - good, good stuff...and you're right - you never throw away ANY of this salad when it's served...it's just eaten until it's gone!
