Jetts Candycane Cookies

Ok everybody, did you realize Christmas will be here soon!! Here's a great recipe to bookmark or print out now & save.
Ingredients
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F shopping list
- Mix together thoroughly;* shopping list
- 1/2 cup shortening shopping list
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine shopping list
- 1 cup sifted powdered sugar shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 1-1/2 teaspoon almond extract shopping list
- 1 teaspoon vanilla shopping list
- Sift together and stir in:* shopping list
- 2-1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour shopping list
- 1 teaspoon salt (***If using self rising flour - OMIT***) shopping list
- Divide dough into halves* shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring shopping list
- crushed peppermint candies shopping list
How to make it
- Roll - 1 teaspoon each color dough into a strip about 4 inches long.
- Place strips side by side, press lightly together and twist like a rope.
- Place on ungreased cookie sheet
- Curve top down to form handle of cane
- Bake about 9 minutes or unti lightly browned.
- Remove with spatula from cookie sheet while warm and sprinkle with a mixture of 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candies and 1/2 cup sugar.
- Makes about 4 dozen cookies
