How to make it

  • Melt the 2 sticks oleo, cocoa and water together.
  • Add the next 6 ingredients. Mix.
  • Pour into a 12 x 18 baking pan.
  • Bake 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Mix the icing ingredients together; add more milk IF necessary. Spread on the cooled cake.

    I feel the same way about the nuts. I don't like them getting in the way of chocolate OR icing!!!

    This recipe is a great old stand-by, Tried and True! I have made this recipe using 1 stick unsalted butter and 1/2 cup Crisco! Very tender, and the real butter gives it that fabulous extra dimension! So good!

    You could try butter or vegetable shortening. Also check out the vegan substitutes. Truthfully, I don't prefer desserts when it comes to food, BUT when I do prepare them, I always use butter for the best results.
