How to make it

  • Bring all ingredients to a boil in a medium saucepan.
  • Reduce to a simmer, cover and cook 50 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let stand 10 minutes, fluff with a fork and serve.

    I make this with white rice and use 5-spice powder instead of the cinnamon. Sometimes add hard salami. Didn't know it had a name. It's something I made up one day.

    Thanks for the lovely recipe. I am from South Africa and we eat this often. Did not know it was called Durban Rice. Will try it with the brown sugar added. Thanks
