Skillet Dinner Dash For Jm

- 1 1/2 pounds ground meat (you know its there lurking in the freezer) shopping list
- 1 1/2 cups regular rice (I had basmati on hand so that's what went in) shopping list
- 1 cup diced celery (don't tell me you don't have any) shopping list
- 1 cup diced onions or one 10 oz bag frozen diced shopping list
- 1 cup diced peppers or one 10 oz bag frozen diced shopping list
- 26 oz jar fav tomato sauce (i used ragu as it was handy. You did not hear me say that! LOL) shopping list
- garlic powder (I was scrounging, otherwise I'd use fresh minced, honestly!:-) shopping list
- 1 Tablespoon dry marjoram shopping list
- Franks hot sauce shopping list
- salt and pepper to taste shopping list
- about 2 cups water shopping list
- Shredded cheese (I had some prepackaged for pizza so I grabbed that) shopping list
How to make it
- In a large skillet brown the burg (get the kids a drink)
- add rice and toss around awhile (ask them a question or two)
- Throw in the veg and give that some heat (nod as if you are listening)
- add all else except the cheese (hum something Mrs. Doubtfire-ish)
- bring to boil, cover, then down to a simmer for about 25 mts or until rice is soft (entertain kiddies with stories about your past)
- add more water if it begins to get too sticky, should be stew like in consistency
- serve hot off the stove in bowls with shredded cheese on top
- Goes well with a french bread and a garden salad (just how many veggies can I cram into those darlings in one sitting? )
- Can easily be stretched to acommodate more people or kids
- Not gourmet but nutritious and yummy and I'm quite proud at my resourcefulness. Instant kitchen hero! LOL
- If any of the kids do not groan with delight afterwards, NO DESSERT! LOL
