Ingredients

How to make it

  • Combine meat with egg, salt, pepper, garlic and allspice.
  • Mix very well.
  • Carefully mix in onion, potatoes and beets.
  • Shape meat mixture into six large flat patties.
  • Melt butter in a large skillet.
  • When butter turns golden brown, add patties.
  • Fry until golen brown; turn and fry other side until desired doneness.
  • Serve patties topped with fried eggs.
  • ( I will skip the fried eggs and serve with a green salad and maybe a rice or barley side dish.)

The beets are a different touch. This I really have to try. Yep, you can see right off the a tablespoon of salt is way too much.Your changes to the recipe are spot on. Here the ground beef is so lean it's hard to make patties or meatballs out of it so I'd use the egg as a binder. I reckon your idea of meat balls with a sauce sounds good. Nice post. RJ

Do not use the tablespoon of salt. I used 1 tsp. and that was fine, probably a mis-print in the paper. Otherwise these were quite tasty, could be made into balls and served with a cream sauce or a tomato based sauce.
