Wonderful chocolate layer cake with a chocolate cream cheese frosting. Acquired this recipe from a church cookbook

  • ****************Chocolate Wonder Cake*******************
  • 1 - 3 oz. square baking chocolate
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 1/2 cups flour(all purpose)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • ***************
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar(yes....another sugar addition. Stay with me!)
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ******************Chocolate Wonder Frosting*****************
  • 1 - 3oz. package cream cheese
  • 2 or 3 Tablespoons milk
  • 2 cup confectioners powdered sugar
  • 2-3oz squares chocolate
  • dash of salt

Directions
  1. Melt chocolate.
  2. Add 1 cup sugar & buttermilk. Cool.
  3. Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  4. Cream butter, 1/2 cup sugar.
  5. Add eggs and 1/4 cup flour.
  6. Add chocolate mixture.
  7. Add rest of flour mixture alternately with buttermilk.
  8. Add vanilla
  9. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
  10. Ice with the Chocolate Wonder Frosting.
  11. Cream the cream cheese; add sugar, salt and melted chocolate.
  12. Add enough milk to make the right consistency to spread
