undercover casserole
From precursor 16 years agoIngredients
- 1 can of tomato sauce (i use 26.5oz can of Hunts because its cheap) shopping list
- 1 lb of ground beef shopping list
- 1 lb of ground sausage (jimmy dean is good and cheap, or you can use italian sausage) shopping list
- 2 rolls of ready-made biscuits (or bisquick- enough to make 20 drop biscuits) shopping list
- 1 cup of diced onion shopping list
- 1/2 cup of diced green pepper shopping list
- salt, pepper and other seasonings that you like shopping list
- 3 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese (or more, depending on how cheesy you like it) shopping list
How to make it
- ok you know the drill- clean work surface and implements. you'll need a sharp knife and a cutting board (unless you buy those little tubs of pre-diced vegetables from the grocery). you'll also need a large casserole dish- the one i have is a little bit bigger than your standard 9x13.
- preheat your oven to 400 (or whatever the biscuit directions say, you're basically putting it in the over to cook the biscuits and melt the cheese).
- in a large saucepan, cook the ground beef and the sausage.
- add the diced onions and green peppers when the meat is half done.
- when the meat is fully cooked, drain off the excess grease.
- add the tomato sauce to the saucepan, cook until the sauce is heated through.
- add your salt, pepper and whatever else you like to season it up.
- shred your mozzarella cheese while the sauce is heating up (again, unless you buy it already shredded)
- dump the meat and sauce mixture into the casserole dish, spread it around evenly.
- cover the meaty goodness with the shredded cheese.
- ok, we're almost finished. take the biscuits out of the tube. spread the individual biscuits on top of the saucy meat and cheese mixture to cover it all (if you are using bisquick instead, drop spoonfuls across the top in rows until its mostly covered, they'll spread a little bit as they cook).
- place the dish in your preheated oven.
- cook that sucker for about 10 minutes (or whatever it says on your biscuits, in theory the meat/sauce mixture is already hot).
- pull it out of the oven (it's gonna be hot so watch your tootsies) and inhale the goodness.
- take a picture so you can show your friends how good of a cook you are.
- serve with your favorite side dish (or in my house corn, that's all the kids eat i swear).
