How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 400F.
  • Slice a thin layer from the "hairy" root end of each onion so they stand upright.
  • Using a melon baller (if you have one) or a sharp paring knife, core the onions.
  • Place one whole clove of garlic in the hole of each onion.
  • Combine bouillon, cinnamon, pepper flakes and sugar, divide evenly between the two onion cores.
  • Drizzle a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar into each hole.
  • Wrap tightly with a double layer of aluminum foil, being careful not to puncture it. Place on a baking sheet.
  • Bake 45-50 minutes, or until caramelized, depending on the size of the onions.
