The german version of potroast. It's a family favorite. Very good served with country style red mashed potatoes and carrots.

Ingredients
  • 3 1/2 lbs boneless beef chuck (or round bone roast)
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 4 dried shiitake mushrooms (stems removed)
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup dry red wine
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 garlic clove (crushed)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons water

Directions
  1. Trim all visible fat from meat; place in a slow cooker.
  2. (or not it can add flavor but, then you must skim it off)
  3. In a small bowl, combine onion, water, mushrooms, ketchup, wine, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and garlic.
  4. Pour mixture over meat.
  5. Cover and cook on Low about 8 hours.
  6. Remove meat and slice. Keep meat warm.
  7. Turn control to High.
  8. Dissolve cornstarch in water; stir into cooker.
  9. Cover and cook on High 15 to 20.
  10. minutes or until thickened.
  11. Serve sauce with meat.
