How to make it

  • Line a baking sheet with greased waxed paper.
  • Coarse chop the figs.
  • Coarse chop the walnut meats.
  • Combine in a large mixing bowl.
  • Stir in the flour, baking powder, anise extract and salt.
  • In another bowl, beat the eggs and sugar.
  • Add butter and mix well.
  • Combine the egg mixture with the flour mixture.
  • Shape dough into six 2" logs.
  • Refrigerate logs for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Bake logs for 15 minutes.
  • Remove from oven
  • Cool 20 minutes.
  • Reduce oven temperature to 325 degrees F.
  • Slice logs on the diagonal.
  • Return to oven for 10 minutes.
  • Turn cookies.
  • Bake 5 to 10 minutes longer.

    Just made these over the weekend. Came out perfect! These were not hard, they were almost like cookies. Definitely a keeper! Added a couple of my pictures.

    To my friends, julia and boofie.. I am sooo sorry that you have an overabundance of figs! (Read jealous!) You poor ladies are suffering greatly while elgab and I have NO FIGS! Thanks for the fives! Enjoy these truly delicious cookies. Love ya,
