If you haven't noticed or saw the recent morning show, be aware the food manufacturers are ripping us off and being sneaky and deceitful about it.

Ingredients
  • On a recent morning show and obivous to many is how the food manufactuurers are screwing the public and have no problem in doing it. Jif peanut butter made the bottom of their jar pushed up more so the jar looks the same but you get less for the same amount. That was really sneaky. Some of the ceral boxes are the same height and width but compared sideways they are thinner, so less cereal, same cost. I just bought all the boxes at 4 stores of the Good Seasons Italian dressing (60 boxes). One store had ran out and I found out, was told, they are changing their packaging. I can only believe the 4 bags may be three at the same price. Not sure on this one. Paper towel, less sheets, same price. Did everyone know the cans of Tuna are going from 8 ounces to 6 ounces, yep same price. Yep they get the bucks and we get the shaft. Further in their little game, now 8 packs of soda instead 12. Know we all have to reprogram out brains to decided when a sale price on 8 is anygood. They just sit around thinking how to give to us.

Directions
  1. On a more positive note for all, I recently sent out emails to all my previous customers that my company Star Tech Intl. is going to go "green" next year on our packaging, getting away from the blister packaging. I have to pack all my orders for Lee Valley Tools in Canada in zip lock bags as they won't accept any blister packaging from anyone.
  2. Everyone who has ordered was emailed they could buy any amount of packs from my web site www.wrapnstrap.com and the order would be "doubled" for free and we will pay the extra postage. We want to get the current inventory of blister packs out so we can bring in Green packaging next year. It has been a heck of a response. Any foodie or friend can take advantage of the same offer.
  3. So others are shorting the public and my company is giving away stuff one might say. Happy trails to all and may your cans and boxes not shrink.

I hope everyone becomes more aware of what is going on, being in manufacturing I may notice it more than many. The other day a elder lady was buying refried beans and grabbed a regular size can on sale, but the next size double the amount only cost 20 cents more. I pointed it out to her that she could twice as much for only 20 cents more instead of another 98 cents. Got to watch everything so careful now. She was pretty happy with the savings, she just didn't stop long enough to check.

Yeah JJ thats not all thats shrinking so are Jobs to millions right before Christmas{Hope they are all happy.{Bet the companys owners dont loose much. and our foods in grocery stores getting the crunch,NOT GOOD,

Yep the company CEO's just love it.

Lee valley tools. i love that company. i also like the companies that use the biodegradable packaging peanuts. i always taste-test them to check. maybe somebody should post a recipe that uses up those packing peanuts.

You are too funny, edible packing peanuts, make them small so they can be part of your salad. Very funny lady. Yep Lee Valley is quite the company, like mine. Anything you buy from them you can return and they give back ALL your money, the shipping from them, the item cost and your return shipping. They are #1. Geez, some people are really going to be happy at Xmas. I am getting orders for like 4 of this pack and 4 of that and then I ship 8 of each. I guess they are going to make great stocking stuffers and when everyone opens up all those items with cords and cabels they will be able to put stuff away so easy with my Wrap-N-Strap cord organizers. If you haven't looked check them out, it is one of those products that really works. I couldn't live without them, all my IPOD cords and chargers, heck the list goes on and on. Merry xmas to all. JJ

Yeah and I ALWAYS read the package sizes especially when there are sales...because the sales tend to be on the reduced-size packages mostly...for example they say buy one get one free, but two of that item is the same size as the larger size which is less money...and the regular grocery stores usually only promote sales of the smaller sized items...making it look like you get more...

YOU GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember half gallon ice cream?

Alas, this is not anything new. Think of chocolate bars as an example. I am old enough to recall them being larger and suddenly they'd be a bit smaller. Then the price would go up. Then the item would be made smaller... seesaw on the shrink it/charge more pattern.

I became aware of that with Diapers twenty years ago! I knew how many diapers I needed to get me through the week. Pampers reduced their 48 diapers to 42... that meant I needed to buy more diapers. When I called and talked to customer service they said it was so they didn't have to raise their prices. I said: "Oh, I see.... HOW STUPID DO YOU THINK I AM?!?! You DID raise your price!"

~Hello~
Thanks for the 'info'~

~~~~~~~~~~~ MERRY CHRISTMAS ~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey Morninlite,
I am at the old Lucky grocery store and they had bacon on sale for .99 a lb or one package. I took 12 up to the register and the box boy says that is below our cost, I said thats OK you will make it up on the volume. He goes "Oh Yea" that's right. They don't exactly hire them on their IQ! JJ.
Even bags of sugar used to be 5lbs.....now they are 4lbs at the 5lb price! I noticed a LONG time ago. Gas prices are going down but groceries are not. Have a great evening!!
This is the very reason I hate recipes that call for a CAN of this or a JAR of that. I have no clue how much to use. I guess it all depends on how old the recipe is and from where it originated.
Point well taken. I usually try and list all amounts and I think the one thing that eveyone may feel is a can of soup for example is the one that has been around forever. I will try and always check now and try and remember to list the size of contents. I try to be very explicit in my posted receipes and will have to more diligent. Thanks for reminding me.
Same thing happening to ice cream, same price smaller container.
And don't forget Bumble Bee Tuna. I thought the cans looked a little squat & smaller than usual. When I read the label........can contained 5 ounces......not the usual 6! So the big sale @ my market was just a trick! 10 cans for 10 bucks=a rip off! If can had been 6 oz, I would have gotten 60 oz of tuna for 10 bucks. But with the new rip off I would have gotten 50 ounces instead-the equivalent of 2 whole cans of tuna. So.....I fixed them good and bought another brand!!
And another thing-for those who are on the WIC program.....you are allowed 28 ounces of approved cereal on the program.....but manufacturers have engineered the weights in cereal boxes so that you can never buy exactly that amount. Who loses??? We do of course!
Is it just me or are Dove Ice Cream Bars shrinking also? Everything is getting smaller! You really have to watch it and do your math.
Heck I noticed that shrinking thing as I got older:-) Maybe that was a Seinfeld thing!
Adkins is shrinking their products as well. A few years ago they went from six bars in a package to five. Now the bars are MUCH smaller, slimmer, and thinner. I emailed the company was was told that adjustments have been made for "nutritional" reasons. As if they are looking out for me, the consumer. I won't pad their pocketbooks any longer.
