Cheese Rarebit Recipe

Ingredients

1-1 1/2 pounds sharp chedder cheese

1/2 cup butter

6 tablespoon flour

1 teaspoon dry mustard

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon sugar

2 tablespoon Worchestershire

2 13 oz evaporated milk

2 13 oz cans water

Directions

Cut cheese in small pieces or shred

In a double boiler over simmering water

Blend butter and flour and seasonings until smooth

Remove from hot water and stir in Worchestershire

Blend in in evaporated milk

Return mixture over hot water and add the cans of hot water.

Add cheese and stir constantly until melted

Serve over toasted buns or toast points.

Makes 9 cups

Thanks so much for posting this. In philly we had a stouffers restraunt that always made this! Bring back old memories and it was so good. Some times they served it over tomatoes as well on the bread. Thanks for posting this.

Kids love CHEESE RAREBIT, fix it with some raw carrot sticks on the side... they dip those too! My grandkid have gotten the croutons out and dipped those.. steamed veggies... what ever works to get them to eay wholesome foods.

Growing up in Philly we had a place called Kelley's and Stouffers. They both served This. But the only addition to your recipe is they just had a tomoato on it before adding the sauce on top. Toast tomatoe sauce...eat away. MMmmm Enjoy.
