Cherry Pie Cake Recipe

How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees
  • Into a 9 x 13 baking dish sprayed with non-stick spray pour cherry pie filling
  • Pour pineapple, with juice, over pie filling
  • Sprinkle dry cake mix over pineapple, lightly spreading it to distribute evenly
  • Pour melted butter evenly over cake mix
  • Sprinkle coconut and almonds over cake
  • Bake 1 hr.

    I first saw this recipe 45 years ago and love it with the chocolate cake mix, cherry pie filling and crushed pineapple, topped w/favorite chopped nuts. When put in the fridge, the chocolate becomes firm and fudgy, YUM! I don't bother to melt the butter, but cut one stick into pats and dot the top of the mix with them. Saves a pan to wash...

    I'm going to try making this with 2 cans of stewed apples instead of the cherry filling and pineapple. I'll use a spice cake mix and top it with the butter, coconut and walnuts. What do you think?

    Help yourself. I'm going to play with it some and try using different flavors of cake mixes and pie fillings. Maybe strawberry or apple and a spice cake. It's so easy and can really be doctored up and changed.

    henrie what is it called? The cherry pie cake was all I could think of calling it. I now it's so good! All I had were the ingredients written on a piece of paper with no measurements.

    Someone gave me this recipe a long time ago but I had never made it. I did today and made a few adjustments. The original recipe had no measurements so I guessed. I also added the Almond slivers. I must have guessed right on the measurements because the piece that is in the picture is now in my stomach and I want more! You will never find an easier cake than this. There is no mixing of the ingredients.
