Caramelized Onion Triangle Puffs Recipe
This recipe yields 49 puffs, enough for about 16 people. Made ahead of time and frozen, they can be baked from frozen, or baked immediately upon making.

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 3 large onions, chopped
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried marjoram leaves
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp white pepper
  • 1 3-oz pkg low-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup nonfat sour cream
  • 1/4 cup grated Romano cheese
  • 32 9 x 14 inch sheets phyllo dough
  • olive oil cooking spray

Directions
  1. In large skillet,melt the butter over medium flame
  2. add onions.
  3. Cook and stir until onions start turning golden brown (about 12 - 15 min)
  4. Add the garlic, marjoram,salt, and pepper. Continue to cook an additional 3 - 4 min.
  5. Remove from heat and place in large bowl.
  6. Allow to cool for 30 min
  7. Add cream cheese, sour cream and Romano cheese; stir to combine
  8. Place a sheet of phyllo dough on work surface.
  9. Spray lightly with olive oil spray and top with another sheet.
  10. Cut into three 3" x 14" strips.
  11. Place about 2 tsp of the mixture at the base of each strip.
  12. Fold triangularly as you would fold a flag, alternating from corner to corner.
  13. Spray with oil and place on baking sheet.
  14. Repeat this process until all the mixture is used.
  15. *****At this point, the puffs may be frozen.
  16. Freeze open on the baking sheet until solid, then pack into hard-walled containers, label, and freeze.
  17. To bake them, simply place in oven at 375*F from their frozen state.
  18. To bake immediately after forming, bake at 375*F for 20 - 25 minutes, or until light golden brown.
