  • SAUCE:
  • 2 cups SAUERKRAUT JUICE, drained from 28 ounces +/- of SAUERKRAUT
  • Remaining JUICE w/ SAUERKRAUT*, reserved
  • 3/4 cup PREPARED MUSTARD (12 tablespoons or 3 ounces) [Your favorite mustard.]
  • 2 tablespoons CORNSTARCH
  • ----------
  • SHELLS:
  • 18 JUMBO PASTA SHELLS (about half of a 12 oz. box)
  • 9 BRATWURST sausages, raw or 1 ½ - 2 pounds bulk
  • 1 medium ONION, half diced**, other half diced finely - divided
  • 1/4 pound (1 cup) +/- VELVEETA CHEESE or (if you must) CHEDDAR CHEESE, diced into 18 cubes
  • 1/8 pound (1/2 cup) CHEDDAR CHEESE, grated
  • ----------
  • EXTRAS:
  • *Reserved SAUERKRAUT
  • **Reserved diced ONION
  • PICKLE RELISH

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350º f.
  2. Cook PASTA according to package directions, leaving slightly al denté.
  3. ----------
  4. SAUCE:
  5. In small bowl combine SAUERKRAUT JUICE, MUSTARD and CORNSTARCH.
  6. Stir until all three are blended.
  7. Set aside.
  8. ----------
  9. SHELLS:
  10. Squeeze meat out of BRATWURST links, into medium bowl.
  11. Add the finely diced ONION.
  12. Mix.
  13. Divide meat mixture into 18 even portions.
  14. Insert a cube of VELVEETA CHEESE into each meat portion, making a ball with the cheese hidden inside.
  15. Place one meatball into each cooked PASTA SHELL.

  17. ASSEMBLY:
  18. Coat 9“x13” casserole dish with non-stick spray.
  19. ***If you like your sauerkraut hot:
  20. ..... Line bottom of casserole dish with *SAUERKRAUT
  21. ..... If you like it cold, skip this step.
  22. Place filled shells in dish.
  23. Pour sauce over shells.
  24. Cover with lid or foil.
  25. Cook for 45 minutes.
  26. Sprinkle with GRATED CHEESE.
  27. Cook for another 10 minutes, uncovered.

  29. EXTRAS:
  30. Scoop a few shells and sauerkraut onto plate.
  31. ..... ***If you chose the cold sauerkraut:
  32. .......... Place some sauerkraut on plate.
  33. .......... Place stuffed shells on top of that.
  34. Ladle some cheesy-mustard sauce, from casserole dish, onto shells.
  35. Top with:
  36. ..... **Reserved diced ONION.
  37. ..... PICKLE RELISH.

How amazingly creative. I bet those just jump off the plate. Got to be a crowd pleaser. Of course my arteries are hardening just looking at the pictures but I wouldn't pass them up.

Oh no.. I have all those ingredients and here it is Father's Day on Sunday. You just know this is a Dad Favorite.
