Beggin For More Baklava

- PIE shopping list
- 4 cups of walnuts shopping list
- 1 tbsp cinnamon shopping list
- 1/2 tsp clove powder shopping list
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg shopping list
- 12 sheets filo pastry shopping list
- 100 gm melted butter shopping list
- syrup shopping list
- 2 cups of water shopping list
- 1 cup brown sugar shopping list
- 1 cup castor sugar shopping list
- 1 cinnamon stick shopping list
How to make it
- PIE
- Crush up the nuts with a food processor until crumbly but not powder
- Or by hand
- Place in a plastic bag and pound with a heavy based sauce-pan
- Mix well with the spices
- Layer 4 sheets of filo on the bottom of a baking dish
- Lightly paint butter on each sheet as you place them in
- Put 1/2 nut mixture on this base of filo
- Layer another 4 sheets of filo painted with butter
- Place remaining nut mixture on this middle layer of filo
- Top with remaining filo pastry also painted with butter
- Bake in the oven at 170 for 30 - 40 minutes
- Pour over half the syrup (recipe below)
- Bake for a further 15 - 20 minutes
- Pour syrup over til about 1/2 way up dish
- There may be leftover syrup, pour over each serving
- SYRUP
- While the walnut + pastry pie is cooking
- Boil the rest of the ingredients together for 15 minutes
