I am betting that is the on my mom used. She had it in this very old cookbook and I don't know what happened to it after she did. I think one of her grand kids in Michigan got it but I am betting this
    is it.

That's wht this is..old-fashioned and basic. Just as I said in the introduction. You can leave the flour out if you want, but th epie will be loose. I have posted a recipe for Hot Apple Pie Sundae, which was created when a cook at a country club where I was chef left out the flour. The pies were too thin to hold on the plate, so, I salvaged them to save the food cost by making ice cream sundaes.

Nice basic pie. If you want you can even go without the flour. Apple has its own pectin and will thicken up. I never do this by my best friend only makes her pies without flour in the filling. It thickens. Has a fresh taste to it with lots of cinnamon. Ok I am hungry for pie.

So glad you specified no margarine. That just ruins the flavor of food for me. Real ingredients seem to equate quality flavor. Hooray, Chefjeb!

This recipe is so like one I make and you are right, it IS comfort food.

You're right, sometimes basic and old-fashioned is good. I've had too many quirky foods lately.
