A question for all the IMI'ers

  • frankieanne 12 years ago
As most of you know, Lillian (the creator of this group) took a break quite while ago to deal with the health issues of her mother. At the time, she intended to come back and I told her I would try and make sure the IMI group stayed active by posting to it as much as I could. Thankfully, because of the participation of so many other GR-ers, this hasn’t been hard at all. I love coming to this group and seeing what all of you are cooking up around here!

Although Lillian’s mother has gotten much better (thank goodness), Lillian has communicated to both ml2c and myself that she is quite busy with a new blog and has been entering cooking contests (and winning!) and it now appears as if she has “moved on”, so to speak.

That leaves IMI with no moderator. This hasn’t seemed to be a problem at all (at least as far as I can see) and I’m sure it can continue on quite well without one.

My question to all of you who participate here is do you think we need a moderator? I think it would be handy, perhaps, if something needed “fixing.” I’m not sure what! but - just in case. I would be willing to start another group (I think maybe I can still call it “I Made It”) and be the moderator for the group, if enough of us thought it was necessary. We could all start posting at the new group, or just keep on going along as we have been right here.

So I am asking all of you regulars to let me know what you think. If you think IMI is fine without a moderator - that’s OK with me, too! Its fine with me to keep posting as much as I can as a member of the group. I’d just like to get some input from all of you as its just as much your group as mine.

    Thank you!

Hi Frankieanne! I would bow to your opinion. I think the IMI Group seems to run quite nicely, but I think you're also right that if something needed fixing, you wouldn't be able to help with that since it was Lillian that created the Group. I'd be all for you creating a second Group and being the Moderator. The only negative I can see, is that I know P70 has done for eg. a lengthy 'Soup' thread and I don't know if he'd be able to 'connect' the two or if that would be important to him or anyone else with a similar situation.

I have nearly asked about this many times, Frankie

My personal opinion is that maybe Lillian can come back and add a moderator or two to this group rather then having to start over. That way, we keep the continuity of the group but we can get beck to being able to add our recipes back in and the group will be "protected" in case anything untoward does happen. But she doesn't have to stay....just the 2 minutes it would take to add another mod or two.:)

I am wishing Lillian all the best and hope she makes it back for a visit, at least!

Frankieanne, good point to bring up. Happy to hear Lillian and her mom are doing well!

Keni's idea sounds like a great solution, if Lillian would be able to get on board with it.

If not, I am open to a "new" group, though I don't see any issues with the group as it is that would be a good solution just in case..

Hi, everyone. Thanks so much for responding.
I didn't realize, Keni, that Lillian could add someone as a moderator. For some reason, I thought I had seen that brought up and it was stated it wasn't an option. If that is so, I can just write Lillian and ask her if she would be willing to do that. Plus, I had forgotten about pso's long soup thread (I think he may even have two!). That sounds like a better solution. Thanks for bringing that up, Keni.

I believe having a moderator in the existing "IMI" group would be a best fit solution. Ask Kristopher if it is possible to add or have Lillian add another moderator.
I think most issues have gone away when GR stepped up out of the Beta software.
If you have to go to another "IMI" group, no one should have any trouble linking from group to group strings just as we now link from this "IMI" group to our reviewed recipes and back.

Im glad you brought this up Frankie. I like the idea of a moderator. I also think the best solution would be to add a couple of moderators. I have been off the radar a bit, but I really enjoy the IMI group. This is where I learn the most and also find recipes that I might like. Plus as much as it might pain me to say, I have actually started to like talking about cooking ( still dont own a pot holder tho.......) and this is the perfect place for it. If adding a a moderator is not an option, and a new group is created, I will happily go to the new IMI group.

Oh good. Glad you two chimed in.
I'll pm Lillian and see if she will add me as a moderator. I doubt I'm going anywhere anytime soon. And thanks for the linking idea, pso, just in case we do have to create a new group. But it sounds like we'll hope there's the additional moderator solution.
Hope someone cooks something up this weekend. :-D

    Hi Everyone!!!
I'm so sorry that I've been MIA since my Mom's health problems! I did peek in from time to time and was soooo happy to see that IMI was active and going strong without me being here everyday! That is because we have such a great bunch of members in here! I knew that all along! But it also meant that the reviewed recipes were piling up and there was just no way for me to keep up with it! I haven't been able to read each new reveiw. And I haven't been able to transfer them to the 'Reviews' page! The stack of reviewed recipes just got too high while I was taking care of my Mom.

I just love that Frankieanne has volunteered to be a moderator!!!
Here is my response to her pm....

Hi Frankieanne! Thankfully my Mom has been doing much better for the past 8 months, but it was rough up until then because she would fall down with grand mal seizures from time to time! We think the last seizure was caused by dehydration. Since she's been more careful about drinking plenty of fluids she's been fine! And so far, no recurrence of the brain tumor. As of this June she will be cancer free for 2 years. Then the odds of recurrence goes from 50/50 to 80/20...much better odds! Thank you so much for asking about her! I hope you're doing well!

Thank you so much for checking out my food blog! I've been having lots of fun with it! Some of my Facebook friends inspired me to do the blog! I spend most of my computer time on Facebook these days! Its just so much easier to keep in touch with everyone that way! I wish more of my GR friends were on Facebook...**hint **hint! lol!

I got so VERY far behind with the group while my Mom was sick! When I was able to finally check in, the amount of recipes that piled up was just too overwhelming! But I'm so happy to see that its still going strong! That truly makes me happy! I was hoping that Christopher would have added a section to the site that would automatically show a stream of all recipe reviews, because I know there must be plenty of them that don't make it into the IMI group. I would just LOVE for you to moderate the group! Thank you so much for asking! I'll go add you as moderator right now!

Thanks so much, Lillian, for getting back to me so quickly! Its wonderful that your mother is doing so well. What great news. Thank you for the "helper" invitation. I have accepted. Now I just gotta figure out what I can do around here. :)
I"m really glad we can keep the continuity of this original group going here!

Good to hear from you Lilliancooks! It's not necessary to keep up with the maintenance on the reviews "person" you started. I think with us linking backwards and forwards to the recipes we've reviewed in the "IMI" group, it makes for a very strong group and recipes can be chased down easily. Think the only thing we can't do is the sorting of recipes by ingredient out of the general population of recipes.
I thought that when you got back on board, sorting through all those recipes would be a mountain to high to climb. That just means we are doing a good job.
Keep your mother well and come back and visit us from time to time.

Helllllllllllloooooo Lillian! I miss seeing your pretty lilies all the time. What is your blog URL please?
I'm definitely for just keeping the original group as those that just pop in and out occasionally may miss the change and think the group has died.
Would it be advisable (as others have said) to have 2 moderators in addition to Lillian? That leaves room for vacations and such. Perhaps, with 2, some of that large pile of reviewed recipes could be worked on.
Thanks PEO or P7O ;-) for all your posts here. You are honest and detailed and those are the kinds of feedback that actually help.
    Thanks Frankie for stepping up.

Hi Lovebreezy. Here is the address for Lillian's blog
    http://myrecipejourney-lillian.blogspot.com/
I think for now, if all of you don't mind, I'd like there to be just one additional moderator, that being me. Lillian also gave me the the password to the Reviews "member" and I will be working on adding recipes to that "member's" bookmarked recipes. I think I'd rather work on it by myself for now so I can keep better track of what I am doing. And, if you ask anyone who knows me, "vacation" is not a word in my vocabulary. :-D If I feel overwhelmed down the road, we can ask Lillian to add someone else.
By the way - has anyone here ever used Review's bookmarked recipes to look for something? Just curious...
