Chipolte Fajitas

  • duboo 10 years ago
Tonight I made Pleclare's Chipolte Beef Fajitas and they were excellent. I've never had chipolte peppers before and had to try them, if I could find them in the store. They had 4 dusty cans and I took three. When I got home, I opened one up and smelled it.... yummm, then tasted..... yummmmm....wow~ Yep a little kick.

I picked a great first recipe to try them out on. I loved the smokey kick they gave the fajitas. I will be make more chipolte dishes in the future. Thanks!

Duboo, You aren't alone not having chipolte peppers before! Lately there seems to be many recipes in IMI using them. Now I am on a big quest for them! I searched and searched today to no avail in my grocery stores:( So far I have found them on a few Canadian sites and perhaps I might be able to order some from them? Everyone talks about the lovely smokey flavour and a nice mild kick that sounds just delish to me! Pat, Pieclare was a good friend of mine and she certainly would be delighted that you enjoyed her Chiolte Beef Fajitas:) No doubt in my mind about that!

Oh, I'm sorry to hear about your friend.

I'm in rural North Dakota and my grocery store serves a town of about 2000 people and a surrounding area of a 20 mile radius that has a total population of about 3000 people. The nearest decent grocery is 2 hours away. I have to substitute in most of the recipes I try, simply because the ingredients aren't available to me locally. That's one reason you will find many of my recipes very simple. I was really surprised that my store had the chipolte peppers. I had all but given up hope when they weren't with the jalepenos and such in the Mexican section. I did find them in the pickled section. Go figure.

Oh and Frankie, I was at the grocery store today, finally grabbing me a can of chipotles, and I saw finely chopped chipotles in adobo....is that what you were talking about before?

How did I miss this last night?
That is amazing that you were able to find the chipotles in adobo in your little teeny town, Duboo. That recipe looks easy, too. Thanks for showing us! I don't think anyone has ever put a beef fajita recipe in here before.
What I saw, ml2c, was a jar of plain ol' adobo sauce. No chipotles in it. I almost picked it up but it was huge. Well, huge for a one person household. It was about half the size of a jar of spaghetti sauce.

In the pickle section? Weird :)

I've never just seen adobo sauce, either... interesting. I don't know that I'd need it, but it's a good way to get the flavor without the mess of chopping up a pepper outta the sauce.

I have and use chipotle powder a lot. Love it!

I was thinking the plain sauce would be nice for dips or dressings or such. Something you didn't want chunks in although those chipotles do kinda disappear in a blender.

Oh okay...that is a lot of adobo sauce!! I would like to find a small can of that because sometimes I do use a lot of the the sauce out of the can and wish there was a little more when I get down to the last pepper...

That should be your motto, Keni - "just throw in another pepper." :)

Thanks, luv... I sorta mentioned it vaguely to Scooby... it really was disgusting. I tried to always take the high road and rarely responded, but they didn't make it easy! :) the only times I spoke up was when they attacked my character... that's when Ben would say "your southern is showing" I appreciate you not joining in.
