Crock Pot Apple Pie

Recipe by Tnacndn: Crock Pot Apple Pie/saved#
Mother brought a couple apples home from the senior center and dunned me for some fried apple pies. I did a search here at GR and found a healthier version of apple pie.
Mixed all ingredients appropriately the night before so all I had to do this morning is peel core and cut up the apples.
Tastes like a well flavored apple pie without any frying or baking or making of crusts.
If you can wait a few minutes before diving in, the apples will collapse on themselves to half the inflated size. And you won't burn up your tongue or roof of mouth so much.
Raw ingredients fill up a 3qt crock all the way.
At five hours I was still napping. Six hours and it was done.

Wow, a crock pot apple pie? Bookmarked, looks delish:)
What kind of apples did you use? I believe Grannie Smith are tart that are usually used when making apple pies? Can you tell I'm not an apple pie connoisseur:)

I used a mixture of variety of apples. It's best for flavor.

I have a Christmas pot-luck coming up in a couple of weeks. Believe I'll make it for that event.

Doubled the recipe and put it in an oval 6qt crock. This was a dry run for the pot-luck. Used Stevia In The Raw, which is a 1 for 1 replacement for sugar. And used 50% more of the additives to the apples. Didn't want to have soup in the bottom of the crock. Crocked away for 7 hours. Took a nap whilst the apples were cooling.
Went to taste my handiwork, and found that mother had stirred up the pot. It's now apple mush. :( I'll have to eat my way through the mush and try the experiment again.
Definitely will cut back on the crock time and use real sugar.

Went back to all sugar in the recipe while still using the larger crock pot. Pie was done in 5 hours and could have been done at 4 hours but I didn't check it. Everyone at the pot-luck liked it. Someone got hold of the serving spoon and stirred the pot. There is a crust on top that apparently looks objectionable to some. But it has a taste of crust just like if it was on a standard pie.
Believe I'll use all Granny Smith apples next time so the texture will hold better.
Think I have a picture of it which is in the camera in the car and it's raining too much for me. Will post later.

Pic on the recipe page is of the intact pie in the crock after the apples have collapsed. You can see the smear marks of the apples collapsing on the side of the crock and what the crust is supposed to look like------------before someone gets in there and stirs it up : (

Strange someone would stir it up. It looks OK to me.
