A recipe from Windy1950 Dads Sloppy Joes

I have to say this was one of the best sloppy joe recipes I have ever made! Slighty sweet..slightly tangy..super delicious & easy:) I 1/2 the recipe and used ground turkey..a little shredded cheddar and also added a pinch or two of red pepper flakes for a little heat:) This will be my "go to" sloppy joe from now on..thanks Windy for sharing your Dads recipe!

Yum! Great pic Marie:) I haven't had a Sloppy Joe in years and I don't know why? I always have most of the ingredients for it except maybe the buns sometimes. I think Den my HB would love this and I bookmarked it to try.

Wow, that looks so good! I could cut that recipe in half, too. I've never made homemade Sloppy Joes. I haven't eaten one since I was married and that's a loooong time now! :-) Thanks for showing us, Marie. I love that melty Cheddar on top!

Thanks Joce & Frankieanne! I never think to make them on a regular basis either , and that's weird cause we both really LOVE sloppy joes and this was a great recipe..inexpensive as well!

Thanks, Ladies... We always made a large batch when the kids were younger, and it didn't last long. But later on when it was just me and Hub, we still cooked a big batch and either froze some of it or sent some home for the grandkids. Thanks Marie for adding the picture. It's awesome. The red pepper flakes sound like a nice touch, as well. ;-)

Connie, it's actually a fresh baked, rather large roll from our local little market up here!
I will remember to make the whole recipe and freeze 1/2 (great idea BTW!) next time:)
I am so pleased you liked the picture:)

That is a super yummy pic Marie! I haven't made Sloppy Joe's in a long time. I will admit that I used to buy a pound of ground beef and an envelope of "Sloppy Joe" mix. And it's neither here nor there, but I've always known Sloppy Joes to be served 'open-face' because.....they're sloppy....:)....But it kind of looks like you serve it 'in' a bun. I think it's about time I revisit this comfort food item. :)

Janet, thanks! We always serve in a bun..just like a hamburger..this wasn't too messy, the sauce was pretty thick:)

    Thanks so much Michelle:)

Been a while since I made sloppy joes. Recipe works out to instructions. The brown sugar makes it a little sweet. Think there is plenty of sweet in it with the bell pepper and onion.
Used Chefjeb's Hamburger Buns and added some wheat and rye flours.
    Pic to the recipe.

Very nice picture Points:) I like that you also made home made buns! I guess you could cut the brown sugar to 1 tbsp..I didn't think it was overly sweet though. Everyone's tastes are different, aren't they!

I need to make these. I like the idea of the brown sugar but then a little sweet with meat doesn't bother me. Hey! I made a rhyme. :)
I could cut this in half, too. Maybe even quarter it...

It's not overly sweet. Although my taste buds are more heightened to sugar as I am supposed to be off the stuff. I'm finding the naturally sweet in foods just as satisfying now.
