Keni Cooking Day!!

  • mommyluvs2cook 8 years ago
    Good Morning!
    It's that time again!
I'm going to recap for anyone new to this :)
As most everyone knows tomorrow marks 2 years since Keni's passing, I can't believe it's already been this long, I miss that girl! Her birthday is on Feb. 16th as well so to celebrate her memory we do an annual cooking day! This year it will be Jan. 30th. Just go through her recipes http://www.grouprecipes.com/people/keni and pick one (or two, or three :) recipe(s) to make and make them!! Then review on her recipe page and it would be greatly appreciated if you could get a review in here as well since Keni was such an active member of this group and loved seeing her recipe get reviewed here :) I have high hopes this will be the best Keni Cooking Day yet, hope to see lot's of people joining in this!! Have a great day everyone!!! :) :)

Also if the 30th doesn't work into your schedule, pick any day you have available. Just be sure to add in your review that you made it for Keni Cooking Day 2016 :)

Okay, it's almost here! So are we going to do like last year and start new threads even if one already exists? I think we had decided it was a good idea so that we could get a picture in the thread and it would be clear who made what for the day. We will wait to link them all up until the beginning/mid of next week so it doesn't get confusing...I'll take on that job :) Everyone good with that??

Yes, I think we should start a new thread even if another exists. I think we did that for Keni Day before so people could add their pictures. I don't think multiple threads are much of an issue now. Lovebreezy doesn't seem to be here with us anymore (unfortunately) and multiple threads don't mess up the Reviews bookmarks. I think the Beta Reviews list is going to be obsolete soon, if it isn't already. She is the only one who can add to that thread. LB hasn't been here for over a year. So, I think multiple threads are OK now. Especially for Keni's day. :-)

You can tackle the job of integrating the Beta Review List with new recipes that have been submitted to the IMI group. It entails setting up a spread sheet with 26 pages for the alphabet. Copy and paste all new reviews to the spread sheets, alphabetized to the appropriate pages. Then copy and paste the Beta Review List, alphabetized to the appropriate pages. Then do a sort function on each page to filter together the old and new reviews on all 26 pages. Then post the new Beta Review List, or whatever you want to call it, to the IMI group in a new string by doing a copy and paste from your new incorporated data base, alphabetized, into the string.
Now that you are the holder of the updated data base, it will be much easier to do a maintenance procedure every so often incorporating any new IMI review strings, by cut and paste then sort then repost of the Review List.
It may even be possible to do a cut and paste into the new Review List since you are the author of the list. That will keep from reposting the entire updated data base to a new string again and again, waylaying confusion about multiple review list listings.

Pso, Lovebreezy was a retired insomniac. I am not. I work 40 hours per week, have a household with a yard I maintain on my own that includes two senior dogs with special needs and a few rescued cats. I also have a set of elderly parents over 30 miles away from me who require my help on a regular basis. Asking me to take on this huge task you have come up with is.... well, I won't be tackling it.
I personally want IMI to be fun for everyone and multiple threads are fine by me. Requiring that contributors go to a list and find a thread so there won't be multiple ones shouldn't be a rule for posting in IMI. At least that's my take.
If you or someone else wants to take this project on, I suggest you start a group with more than one moderator and ask for volunteers. But, I wouldn't be one of them.

Don't look at me! I'm so technology challenged that I'm not kidding when I say it's all I can do to come here, check out recipes on other sites, and send e-mail - haha! My husband takes care of all the computer maintenance and care at our house.

So, is the new thread just for Keni cooking day?
Or is multiple threads ok now, in general?

I have never had a problem with multiple threads. I think it is more important that members share with us what they have cooked. The other thing about pulling up an old thread is you can't add your picture to it. If someone wants to show off their beautiful (or not!) photo of what they made, they shouldn't be told they can't start a new thread with their own picture in it. We are here to cook and share and have fun. THAT is what this group is about!

    Thanks Frankieanne! :)
I like to post in the existing thread if I see it, but if I have a photo to share I'll start a new thread! :)

I also like to post in the existing thread if possible. Sometimes when I am searching in here for a recipe I know has been made before it doesn't come up at all? Then I look in the Beta reviews.

It is nice to be able to search the Beta reviews list, Joce, but the problem is it hasn't been updated for over a year now. We have had a lot of additions in that year and a lot in thanks to all the new members here.

I like the Beta reviews too for making sure a recipe hasn't already been reviewed here before starting a new thread. With it not being updated, we will just have to rely on that every recipe that gets made gets linked back to here, which I don't think will be a problem with all of us around to make sure it get's done :) :)

Wow, that is quite an undertaking, pso. I just found my Reviews bookmark of January 10, 2015. Over 455 recipes were bookmarked by Reviews since that day. Good luck with all of that.

It's progressing quite quickly. I'm still counting on this membership to continue linking multiple review strings to each other.

Great. That will help compact the data base.
