Star Anise and Ginger Braised Chicken

This was not good at all. It tasted like chicken with straight vinegar just thrown all over it. I even tried to adjust everything and couldn't get it to work. That vinegar measurement has got to be off The picture I took (which I'm not posting) was horrible as well. I did use thighs, but I don't think that affected the flavor. I think I may just chop it all up tomorrow and try and make a chicken salad out of it. Got to use my braiser though so I guess that's the plus side of all of it!! Haha! Not leaving a review though...don't wanna be mean...

Yeah thats it. I just figured Chinese rice wine meant rice wine vinegar?? Maybe not? I may have just messed it up then and got the ingredients confused...good thing I didn't leave a mean review!!!

AAAWWW!!! Well now I want to remake this with the right stuff!! I dont have any idea what Chinese rice wine is then and don't where to look for it. I actually tore my hamstring Wednesday so cooking and even going to the store will be hard for me for about a week at least....My poor husband is dying lol!!

Awww, your poor hubby!! Little good that new braiser is doing him, huh? Seriously - I hope you're better soon. That sounds painful.
That actually looks like a good recipe. I know I can easily find sake where I grocery shop. And dry sherry, of course. It might be fun to try this with sake.

I just bookmarked this recipe ML2C. It does look really yummy. I had to giggle @ "Good thing I didn't leave a mean review!" LOL! I've done a similar mistake before myself. Sorry to hear you tore your hamstring. Take care! Here in Ottawa there are numerous Asian grocery stores around where I can buy Chinese rice wine and sometimes I can even find a bottle in the grocery store in the Asian section. I did take a quick look on Google and it says a common substitute is Pale Dry sherry or in a pinch apple, or white grape juice. Again, the flavor won’t be quite the same. It says not to use a cooking wine as they have too much salt and don't impart the same taste as rice wine.
The article I was reading also actually mentioned sake as a sub Frankieanne:
"Sake has a very different flavor than Chinese rice wine. However, some cooks prefer it. It really comes down to personal preference – feel free to give it a try if you like."

Headliner picture has skin-on and it doesn't look like breasts. Was wondering where the extra oil came from. Usually boneless breasts are skinless too. I'd have to use apple or grape juice as my resource for alcohol has dried up.
Am also wondering how a pound and a half of chicken will serve 3-4 people.

Points, I find that I cant go by the serving amounts listed here. Seems like everything is always teeny portions so I generally double the recipes.

Hehe me neither Frankie lol! Thanks everyone, doctor said to stay off my leg for a week!!!! WHAT the FFF#c*#$*%%!!! I don't know how I'm gonna do this with a 2 yr old! Anyway, I do have the sherry so I can do that. Don't even know where to find sake either...a liquor store??

Yes ML2C. You can buy Sake at a liquor store. I'm not a big fan, and would just sub the sherry if it were me, but.....Good luck with your leg. That's pretty tricky with a 2 yr. old, but do take care of yourself. You certainly don't want it to get worse!

Oh ya.....I forgot you guys in the States can buy wine and things in your grocery store. It's a 'no can do' here in Canada. So silly!

Guess it shows my age. It was a continuing SNL act in the early years. She would go on the news (Weekend Update) complaining of something only to find she misunderstood so she would just say "never mind." Sorta like "my bad."
